About
KAZ_LAB is a series of audiovisual events and interdisciplinary artistic and research activities dedicated to the Kazimierz district of Kraków – a place of exceptional historical, cultural, and social significance. Through new media, video art, animation, and site-specific actions, the project explores the past, present, and identity of this unique urban space.
The initiative was launched by Małgorzata Łuczyna and Jacek Złoczowski as part of the Memorymorph collective and is carried out in collaboration with the Faculty of Art at the University of National Education Commission in Kraków.
KAZ_LAB is an interdisciplinary project connecting artistic expression with critical inquiry.
We focus on:
Exploring the culture-forming role of place – examining how history, memory, and spatial experience shape local communities;
Analyzing the role of art as a research tool – capable of producing visual, sonic, and spatial representations of inhabiting, shaping, and perceiving urban space;
Creating artistic interpretations of Kazimierz – through forms such as documentary film, video art, animation, site-specific installations, as well as performative and participatory actions.
The aim of the project is to create a collection of original works dedicated to the Kazimierz district and a visual archive of this place developed over time – artistic documentation of the district, seen through the lens of personal narratives, memory, and formal experimentation.
